In Physical Education, student have been learning to dribble, jump, and shoot! We also practice throwing and catching using scoopers. We work on cooperation and sportsmanship while getting some exercise!

In Social Studies, we've been learning about Native Americans from the Southwest, Plains, Northwest, and Woodlands. Students been working on art projects to replicate crafts and the environment from different regions, while learning about the cultural traditions and beliefs of the different tribes.
Students have been learning about how sound is created, and the different instrument families. Students worked with their families to create their own instrument out of recyclable goods! We played our instruments as a class and then did a gallery walk to observe all of our creations.
Our first class field trip! We saw an amazing production of "Science with Toys" where the students learned about balance, gravity, and simple machines. We then got to enjoy lunch on the beautiful grounds of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
Students have been learning about healthy vegetables and gardening all year. Today they were able to taste their harvest & final project. We had a chef from the Four Seasons teaching the art of pizza making & delicious organic lemonade to wash it down!
Students develop a love of reading! A4 students work on reading comprehension by reading, discussing, & practicing fluency through pairs, literacy circles, and theater!
Students used their knowledge of simple machines to create their own special leprechaun traps. They created projects using pulleys, wedges, incline planes, wheels & axles, and levers to enhance their technique, as well as incorporating nature and art.
Third graders have been studying animals and learning about animal adaptations. The students listened to an educational program from the Pacific Whale Foundation. We were lucky to sight a mama whale and baby! Though a little windy, the students enjoyed a wild & rocking day at sea amongst beautiful ocean mammals.
The students of A4 have been learning to love the art of letter writing! We teamed up with a 3rd grade class at Eden Gardens Elementary, in Hayward, Ca of the Bay Area. The students looked forward to receiving mail once a month and writing special letters in return! They shared information about life in Hawaii and had the opportunity to learn about the life of another 3rd grader across the ocean.
